Jana Van Zyl

Jana joined Dommisse Attorneys in 2013 as lead member of the Compliance and Regulatory team. Her practice services various national retailers, credit providers, call centres, marketing companies and other service providers. More recently she has also become involved with assisting clients in the Fintech space with compliance advice – which is a great complimentary service to the Corporate and Commercial divisions’ clients. Her focus is to provide peace of mind to clients in assisting them with the interpretation of legislation to their business models and understanding risk.

Jana was admitted as an attorney in 2003 and started her career with Marais Muller Yekiso Attorneys in the litigation department. She then joined the niche IT law firm Michalsons, where she assisted clients with drafting IT agreements, performing website audits, advising on compliance and drafting opinions relating to electronic transactions and privacy, legal interpretation queries and more specifically the interception and monitoring of communications.

Jana has written and co-authored many legal works in the legal communications sphere. She co-authored the South African chapter in “e-Commerce, Getting the Deal Through” in both the 2008 and 2009 editions, and the South African chapter in “The Global Privacy and Security Law Reference”.

In 2010 she joined the consumer law firm Robertson Teuteberg Kirk (RTK) where she provided legal advice on regulatory and compliance requirements relating to financial and credit legislation, electronic communications as well as consumer and personal information. Jana was responsible for providing ad hoc opinions, reviewing and drafting agreements, providing training and running compliance projects.

When it comes to time away from the office and finding her own peace of mind, Jana is an avid camper and a lover of the outdoor lifestyle. She maximises every opportunity to take a weekend away with her husband and two children.
