Jacques joined the commercial team at Dommisse Attorneys in 2019. He studied and worked both locally and internationally with a background in technology-based service offerings, commercial intellectual property matters, restructuring, private equity, franchises, licensing, as well as in local and international expansions. Jacques has a keen interest in the mechanics of a business’s value creation methods and enjoys assisting his clients in finding the path of least resistance.
Jacques obtained his LLB from Stellenbosch University and spent his final semester abroad at Leiden University in the Netherlands, where he predominantly majored in European competition law and technology-related law. He additionally obtained an LLM (cum laude) in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town and an Advanced LLM in Intellectual Property from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands. Jacques was involved in several international organisations and networks, for which he co-published an academic paper for the European Intellectual Property Institute Network and was invited to take part in studies of international intellectual property law and innovation policy at the Intellectual Property Law school in Macau, China.
After his studies, Jacques worked in the Netherlands for close to two years as a consultant for a company specialising in the international knowledge economy, after which, he returned to South Africa to practice.
In his spare time you will find Jacques outdoors, or in his greenhouse or bonsai garden, tweaking a temperamental vintage Vespa, or enjoying some South African wine with friends.
